Apr. 30th, 2011 12:19 pmSo! In an effort to use this more, and not descend into the vagaries of Tumblr fore'er more, I'm trying really hard to think of things to post. I'm really boring, but I do encounter some good shit, so uh, here are some things I've enjoyed lately :)
♥ Don't forget to check out the flowers!

These are just in my garden, but there are flowers pretty much everywhere right now. I tend to check out other people's gardens a lot this time of year when I'm walking the dog, but if you don't want to be creepy and stop and stare into people's gardens, they're pretty gorgeous just in passing. And there's still blossom on the trees (at least up here!) and obviously that's beautiful too.
♥ Go on a picnic :D

Mum, her friend Barbara and I went on a picnic a couple of weeks ago. We went to the bluebell woods in Durham, but uh, there weren't any bluebells out. Still, everyone had a great time, and we had a nice walk with Star. I really love going on picnics, especially when someone brings along a divine lemon drizzle cake :D The weather right now is pretty much perfect for lugging bags of food around and finding somewhere fun to sit :)
♥ Cleanse your hands with sea salt!

So, a while ago Mum and I went to the Ideal Homes Show in London, and there's a section there called Ideal Woman. Whilst we were wandering around there, a very nice young lady made us try her product - salt from the dead sea rubbed over your skin, then washed off. Surprisingly, it worked really well, and our hands felt lovely for a few days after. Unfortunately, it was hellishly expensive. Mum said that probably the salt was acting as an abrasive, and was taking off the dead/dry skin, so really, any coarse sea salt should do! I bought some fairly cheap sea salt (I believe it was something like £1.50 for a box?), rubbed it over et voila, lovely feeling hands! Of course you can use it on your feet, legs, and anywhere else, I imagine.
Um, and that's it for now!
I am SICK of trying to get this post right ._. WORK DAMN YOU.

Illustrious 2011
Apr. 26th, 2011 11:58 pmSo I've made it back from the wilds of Birmingham, where I spent the weekend sequestered in a large hotel with a large number of sci-fi fans. If you can't be bothered to read what will doubtless end up a long and rambling report, the short version is: I really enjoyed Eastercon.
The trip down was alright, straight across the A69 (except there was a massive fuck off traffic jam, so we skipped down the A689 as a detour) and then straight down the M6 (where there was also a massive fuck off traffic jam, blargh). Our Travelodge was just off the A45 and was easy enough to find, once you'd gotten lost and gone in entirely the wrong direction for a little bit. Aside from delays and drunken twats yelling about shattered ankles and cracked skulls at 3.30am, Thursday went quite well.
So Friday was the first day of the con, we all piled into a taxi which took us to the Hilton, where we stood in a long queue to register and get timetables/voting thingamajiggies. There were no freebies this year - surprising, but not wholly disappointing, since it meant less to carry around!
Apparently contrary to many people, I was quite impressed with the layout of the hotel. Everything was essentially on one level, the rooms were quite large and shit was easy to find. Plus, the fan lounge, bar and food hall were all nice spaces with plenty of places to sit down. Which, y'know, I happen to think is a good thing! I certainly found it better to get around than the Radisson last year, and as my Dad remarked, fewer stairs was a good thing. (AFAIK both venues are mostly disabled accessible, but I think the Hilton is easier, and certainly was for Dad who has some mobility issues.) There was an admitted problem with the majority of the rooms being way too hot, but otherwise I quite liked it.
The things I went to on Friday were:
( Delightful! )
On Saturday, we stopped in at a Tesco's and grabbed drinks and sustenance (because the hotel's prices were ridic. high, even for a hotel =/), then made our way to the hotel (I may have gotten lost a little bit getting there, but in fairness anyone could confuse NEC Parking and NEC signs...).
Things I went to on Saturday weeere:
( Fascinating! )
And then we went back to the Travelodge, unfortunately, since we all (excluding Aaron) wanted to be up in time for the Easter service next morning.
Surprisingly, we did manage to get up in time and get there (despite Daddy falling over and doing his best impression of a turtle - only mildly funny since he'd tripped over at the Travelodge the day before =/). It was a lovely service, run by
dougs. Very much a sci-fi fan service, but very good nonetheless. I've never sung a hymn to a midi file before, but there's a first time for everything!
Following that, the items I went to on Sunday were thusly:
( Invigorating! )
So then Dad, Aaron and I sat around in the bar discussing shit, and Mum went to another panel. I got to take note of the really cool costumes that have come out this year. Lots of steampunk, and one in particular was so cool - essentially a Victorian shoe shiner, with some steampunk-y elements (I think...? I could be wrong and it was a straight period costume, IDK I suck) ETA found some pics of the costume I mean, here and here, see what I mean? Neat!. I thought it was pretty clever, especially since it's true - were we honestly in a Victorian future (....you know what I mean), most of us wouldn't exactly be airship pirates...
Anyway, to Monday. Once again we arrived waaaay early, and Mum and I walked through the bluebell wood that connects the Hilton to the NEC. It was very pleasant, and there was a lovely lake :D But the NEC was sooooo weird when it was completely empty and shut up, aside from one Newsagent.
But you don't care about that! So here're the things I did on Monday:
( Magnificent! )
And then it was all over, and we went home! I slept nearly the entire way, haha.
Some final thoughts on it all:
I liked the venue :)
I liked the 1.5 hour item length - the extra half hour was immensely useful!
Most panels weren't quite as advertised, but on the whole very interesting nonetheless.
Tesco is so much cheaper than hotel food it practically hurts, hahaha.
The Dealers room was good! I got 4 books, 2 necklaces (one of which was this, isn't it fucking awesome?) and 2 t-shirts :D
I really want an iPad.
Next con plans are Nemacon in June - an anime con in Middlesbrough, and then probably Novacon in November, and then possibly Thought Bubble - a comic thing (con? massive dealers room? something else? IDK) in Leeds. I'm excited :D
Also hahaha why did I get this up before my MCR post? *sob*

So! I'm back from Paris! It was really great this time, I had a fantastic time! I won't update much now, since I'm tired and I don't have the pictures sorted, but tomorrow, hopefully, I'll get that all together :D
High point? Was absolutely MCR! After the disappointment of them at the arena, I can't even begin to tell you how great they were in a smaller venue! Every single thing except the sound system was so much better. And Frank! Frank was amazing! ♥
(Only) Low Point - seeing a dog get hit by a scooter outside the Musée D'Orsay. Ugh, I think the poor thing managed to get away with just a broken leg, but I have never fucking heard a dog scream before, and I hope I never do again. I have never heard anything so sad.
Anyway! More tomorrow~~ ♥

Feb. 18th, 2011 11:54 pmThis is just a short entry, because I'm sleepy as fuck and I doubt many of you actually care but XD
Rob Zombie, you guys, fucking wow! I thought the show was immense and amazing!! Literally that was one of the best gigs I've ever been to, everything about it was practically perfect (except for my own, treacherous feet. I was wearing comfy boots, why the fuck do they hurt so much?!). Like, atmosphere, music, crowd, everything!
I can't even describe to y'all just how epic I thought it was XD
Oh and Skindred rocked really fucking hard, I didn't really know many of their songs, but I totally fucking approve. Mmm reggae and metal? Yessss fucking pleeeeease.
To end on a shallow note - I would not kick Rob Zombie or his band out of bed. And Joey Jordison is incredible. Unnnnnnnnnnnnnffffffffffff!

Help me design my room?
Feb. 2nd, 2011 08:20 amI mentioned in an earlier post that I'm going to be decorating my room~ I'm quite excited, since it's been forever since I painted my room.
Right now I'm trying to decide between two wallpapers for a feature wall, this black, pink and gold flowery one, or this raspberry and gold damask one.
( Images of them under the cut. )
I'm leaning towards the black, pink and gold one, because it means I could paint the rest of my room black, which I would find more soothing to sleep in. As much as I really like the pink and gold one, I'm worried that when I try to fall asleep, it'll be distracting... On the other hand, the pink and gold IS completely gorgeous.
I was also thinking that on the blank walls, I might put up some of those vinyl stickers. Curently I'm trying to decide between:
Flower Girl.
Twin Trees With Birds.
Tree Branch and Birds.
Large Vine Leaf With Birds.
So apparently I really like birds? Anyway! What do y'all think? Should I just scrap everything and go with my original idea of pirate shanty?

Jan. 18th, 2011 08:58 pmOn the BBC, 'Bristol gay couple win Cornwall b&b bed ban case', or, a gay couple is turned away from a b&b.
I was talking about this with my Mum in the car, and she says that she thinks the ruling is unfair - the hotel owners are morally unable to give an unmarried couple a double bed to share. A civil partnership is apparently not equivalent to marriage in their beliefs.
If the hotel owners weren't business people, if they were just offering beds to people without any money exchanging hands, then I would agree with Mum. If you can't accept someone, for whatever reason, then I personally think you can deny them entrance to your own home. I may find your views abhorrent, but they're yours, and I think you shouldn't be made to let anyone into your house that you don't want in there.
However, since this is a place of business, and not a home, I think that the hotel owners are in the wrong. I understand their point of view, and I actually think they shouldn't do/allow things that they find morally unacceptable, but that doesn't stop them from being in the wrong. There are consequences to all actions, and even if they think they're in the right, these are the consequences to them denying a room to a couple.
I also checked out their website - there's no mention of their policy on there, so I think the owners are even more in the wrong. I don't think it's in any way right to deny customers something they booked, for something they didn't know about!
Anyway, we're no longer in a world where you can deny a homosexual couple a bed, and I think that's a very good thing.

Jan. 6th, 2011 07:43 pmFirstly, thank you so much to
xaritomene, for herding
42footprints,
xrysomou,
phantomjam and I into her rather fucking wonderful apartment for New Years. I seriously love that place.
In that vein, Happy New Year to everyone! I hope that you are all happy and healthy this year, and that the positives outweigh any negatives.
So Kate very sweetly lent me Supernatural season 1, and I watched it alllll. Mostly on my own. Now I kind of don't want to go to sleep. I have stocked up on salt. I also read through the episode summaries on Wikipedia, and I have tbh, I agree with my little brother's pronouncement of Buffy with penises. Too many dead people not staying dead.
White Collar, on the other hand, is pretty fucking awesome. I grabbed the first season at Blockbuster today, and I'm really enjoying it thus far. Everything about it seems to be wonderful, and it won't give me nightmares. \0/
Finalllllly,
Pay it Forward 2011: I promise to send something handmade to the first 5 people who leave a comment. They must in turn post this and send something they made to the first 5 people who comment on their status. The rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent to your 5 people sometime in 2011

A list! Filled with rambling!
Dec. 20th, 2010 04:51 pm♥ So I've been intending to do a 3 drummer picspam, of Bob Bryar, Chris Gaylor and the Butcher, but I am really lazy. And also, I think about it? And then I think, "Well hey, Travie's kind of scorchingly hot, he should be in there, even if he isn't a drummer." And then I basically descend into thinking about all the people I've found hot this year, and I am definitely too lazy to do a picspam about all of that.
♥ In the same vein, I thought about posting a mix of songs I've really enjoyed this year - but I can't remember songs that I liked a few months ago, and it would pretty much be made up of bandom and pop songs - which is not necessarily a bad thing? But I think you guys already have all the bandom you need, and I'm not sure any of you actually listen to pop music, ahaha. Maybe I will anyway? Because I like to pretend I'm interacting with you guys by sharing music.
♥ Oh, so, you guys want to know something that's REALLY FUCKING AWESOME?
You do?
I'm going to see Iron Maiden! And Rob Zombie! And My Chemical Romance!!!
I'm going to see MCR TWICE! Once here in Newcastle, which, y'know, yay. The other time?
...
...
In Paris!!!
I'm so excited, you guys have no idea! I don't think I was this excited when I went to see Dir en Grey in Paris, so. Y'know. EEEEE! Perhaps it's the addition of a
xaritomene that makes it so awesome?
♥ And I dyed my bangs/fringe greeny-turquoise!
( Have a look under the cut )
♥ And back to fannish things, I really need to finish writing my
aar_capslock Secret Santa. I had a lot of fun planning out a couple more bits of it with
xaritomene when we met in Newcastle, so hopefully it won't take me too long (haha, it better not, the deadline's the 22nd!). You guys have already seen the Star!AU, there's also a Punk!AU, and a Liquor Shop!AU, and I'm trying to think of two more. I think perhaps a DJ!AU, and then a College!AU? The person I'm writing for doesn't want too much crack, or you can bet I'd be writing about fairies and dragons and vampires, and probably genies and zombies too. Alas, my life, so hard.
♥ Aaaaah, screw it, I'm really in love with Chris right now, so here's a mini-picspam!
( He owns a micro brewery, doncha know? )
So that was uh, a lot less mini than I thought it would be. :D?

My Life As Told By My Phone
Dec. 13th, 2010 08:19 amI feel really lazy and lethargic, so I thought it might be neat to update with some of the photos stored in the depths of my phone. It's probably boring for anyone but me though XD
( I worked something out last night that changed this little boy's brain. )
Oh, also, ridiculously excitingly, me and
xaritomene are gonna go see My Chemical Romance in February! There's a part of me that's like, wailing to the heavens about having missed out on ever seeing Bob, but the rest of me is like, holy fucking fuck yeah! I'm seriously so excited, it's going to be amazing!

Christmas Cards! And A Meme!
Dec. 9th, 2010 03:39 amSo firstly, if anyone would like a Christmas card, leave me a comment, or PM me with your address :) Anyone not in Britain, if you could get to me by Friday, that'd be awesome!
And now for a meme I stole from
nuclearxsquid:
Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2010 (not including memes of course). Post the first line/sentence of it in your journal, and that's your "Year in Review".
( I'm basically repetitive and boring. :D? )

BRB: GOIN'TO LONDON
Nov. 27th, 2010 06:19 amOh my gosh, you guys it's 6.20am. Someone shoot me!
Anywhooo, the reason I'm up so early is because I have to get train at 7.30 and then a bus at 8.45 to get to London for 15.45! And I am going to then stay there until Wednesday at 23.15! \O/
If anyone wants to meet up, tweet me or email me or comment here, I'll have my phone so I'll have (somewhat limited) access to the net & email. I'm already super excited about seeing
chairman_wow! I'd love to meet others for coffee or museum gazing or window shopping or whatever~~
As I'm sure most of you know, my part of the country is under snow, and has been since Wednesday! I'd say that in places where it hasn't been cleared, it's about 1 foot deep! Or 30cm for my metric friends. Frustratingly I don't think I own any actually waterproof shoes, but my Docs have been mostly watertight, so they're the ones I'm wearing down to London :) It's bleedin' freezing though! I'm not that fond of the cold, although Star does have a lot of fun running in the drifts (and also, fools passerby into thinking she has tiny legs! Hehehe).
Ummmm. Oh! Right, one thing I think absolutely everyone should do is go and download is anybody upstairs? by The Animal Upstairs. I've been listening to that album a lot lately, and I think it's excellent! It's done by Andy 'the Butcher' Mrotek, who is the drummer for The Academy Is... (can I just say? He is fucking hot, and ridiculously talented, and an artist! And he looks fiiiiiine in teeny tiny running shorts!)
Right! So! Wish me luck on my epic snow-filled quest! London here I come~!

Nov. 25th, 2010 05:15 pmIt's my birthday today! I'm 22~~
So far...
I've spent 30 minutes scraping ice off the car and de-icing the interior.
I've walked the dog and fallen over.
Also split my freakin snow boots.
Had the power go out and drop the temperature in the house into freezing.
Been completely alone for way too fucking long.
Had my big brother get pissed at me because apparently I didn't tell him the dates I was going down to visit him (I did though! I swear!).
However
It's looking better, I have pizza and cake.
And I will soon have Danger Days! THANK YOU SO MUCH

Finally, I love Travie's face:

Finally, I love Travie's face:

I promise I will post about something sensible soon (like skirts, which I still have opinions on). I have thoughts and shit. I'm just really lazy about making a worthwhile post! D8
So! Not-so-worthwhile things:
I have done a mix for
zombiebang, but it was really difficult to do since I haven't read the fic and also, wow, I found the cover hard to do! This was the first one, which I admit still amuses me BUT IT'S REALLY BAD, so I redid it into this one, which is a tad better. IDK, I'm just bad at this shit, I guess. Here's the tracklisting, which I did so like, half is "AIEEE ZOMBIES" and the other half is "I REALLY REALLY HATE YOU LET ME IN YOUR PANTS". I really hope it fits the fic ok, BUT I HAVE DOUBTS.
I have such a serious serious craving to write Gabe/Billviam/Travie. I really want a massive Bandom!Food Network AU, where everyone has their own show and shit, and Bill is basically Nigella Lawson, except male and svelte. I won't write it because I basically hate my writing, but I think I would pay to see others do it.
In totally other news, my body is basically falling to pieces and I am a fucking biohazardous wreck. Ugh.
I deleted my Facebook, because I was sick of looking at it and seeing "Us middle-class whiteys are so oppressed!" posts. Everyone I really care about, I have other means of communication with, so whatever. I miss having another site to check on in boredom, but I have Tumblr, which updates crazy fast, so I'm ok~
Both Evans and New Look have been majorly disappointing lately. Half their shit looks so bad, and the one thing I liked in Evans, Mum said clinged too much to my back fat, so I had to put it back before I sobbed like a fucking child in the changing rooms. IDEK what it is about changing rooms, but they put me on edge and wreck my mood.
In good news - I bought Gym Class Heroes' As Cruel As School Children, Paloma Faith's Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful, Marilyn Manson's Lest We Forget, Travie McCoy's Lazarus, The Academy Is... Fast Times At Barrington High and Florence And The Machine's Lungs. I like to think this makes my tastes ecclectic and interesting, rather than influenced solely by fanfic, nostalgia and daytime music tv. *so lame*
And that's it! I swear I will come back and be interesting at some point!
Oh! New LJ layout - so pretty!

Nov. 8th, 2010 01:24 pmI've been wanting to update for a while, but lately I haven't had a lot to say. Life is ticking along, not a lot of any great interest has been happening. I don't think anyone really wants to hear me wax lyrical over skirts and my newfound love thereof, and I haven't been thinking of much else XD
Oh, I added someone on MSN that I didn't really want to - I don't really know why I didn't put my foot down and say no (I did once, but then he came back and was like, "I insist!"). I have nothing to talk to him about, I don't really like him a great deal and he's made himself an enemy of a few of my friends. I think he only added me so he could tout me as someone 'on his side', otherwise I have no idea why he wants to speak to me - I'm honestly not that good at things like MSN. I go through phases where I'm chatty, but mostly I'm pretty quiet because I have nothing to say.
Uh, oh! I added a bunch of fat positive blogs on Tumblr, and they all reblog themselves! It's not like I have a problem with that or anything, but it gets a little overwhelming, haha. And then I have a bunch of punk ones, which are all quite political (obviously, I guess). My Tumblr dashboard used to be cute things and pretty landscapes, now it's like, fat women, politics and the occasional cupcake. And lots of zombies.
