Danger Days: Thoughts

Before I tell you all my thoughts about Danger Days (the new MCR album), I have some amazing news! My big brother is getting married! He's been engaged to his fiancee for a couple of years, but they hadn't set a date.
Well, now they have: January 25th! I think it's gonna be a pretty laid back ceremony and whatever, because that's how this family rolls. But I am just so sincerely pleased that Lise, his fiancee, is officially becoming a part of our family. I already think she's amazing, and I am super proud that I get to call her my sister-in-law!
Anyway!
I am firstly super super thankful that Xari got this for me! Thanks so much bb! ♥
I am secondly in super massive hate with itunes. Seriously, you guys have no idea how hard it was to get that motherfucker to download and open an account. I literally and honestly threw a tantrum (because I turned 2 yesterday, not 22). Ugh. Still, I wrastled that motherfucker into submission so I could FINALLY listen to Danger Days!
I skipped over Look Alive, Sunshine and Na Na Na because I have already listened to them a thousand and one times, and it's getting to that oversaturation point where I stop grinning like a fool and start wanting to gouge out my ears.
The opening to Bulletproof Heart really irritates me - "I'm who I've got to be," fuck off Gerard, that is a really shitty lyric. The song just doesn't really work for me, and I can't get over how annoying I find the lyrics XD;
Sing is a bit better than Bulletproof Heart, if only because I am a complete sucker for crescendoes and ridiculously grandiose anthems. I wish I liked Sing more, but once again, the lyrics are just getting in the way. It feels like Gerard wants us all to come together, but at no point does it feel like he wants us all together for any reason. When it gets to "Cleaned up, corporation process...", it kind of feels like he's just saying words for the sake of it.
I really really really like Planetary (GO!)! There is so much more energy in this song, and aside from Na Na Na, it's one of the few songs that feels like it really fits the Killjoys' concept. This one really makes me want to get up and dance, and it really throws into relief just how mediocre I find the rest of the songs. Why weren't more of the songs on the album like this?!
The opening to The Only Hope For Me Is You is so damn slow. What is the point of it? I think the song would have been better without the vague electronic wafting. I think I would like this song so much more if Gerard could actually sort out some decent lyrics for it and maybe learn how to say 'hope' (protip: not like 'herp'). When I'm not paying attention to the words, I enjoy this song quite a lot, so it's nice as background music, I guess.
Jet-Star and the Kobra Kid/Traffic-Report doesn't really add anything to the album, IMO. Maybe this is because I can't help but compare Dr Death-Defying to DJ Professor K from JSRF, and I have to be honest, Dr D just isn't as cool. Also, the slang just doesn't work for me. *shrug*
Party Poison has some random Japanese thrown into the background, which I find really distracting. Other than that, I quite like the song~ It doesn't overwhelm me with the need to dance or anything, but it's more like what I expected and wanted from this album. I like the positive energy in it and the dancey vibe.
I'd already heard Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back, because it was one of the songs they offered as a free download. I really liked it then, and I still do! It all just works for me, and like Party Poison, it's not my favourite, but if there'd been more of this type of song on the album, I'd have been pretty pleased.
S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W is intensely, intensely boring to me. I admit it, I just don't like MCR's slower songs. They're all so bland to me. I seriously can't get over just how bad I think this is! Did they have to write it out so dumbly to make up for how uniniteresting it is musically?
Summertime is bland, it's nice enough I guess? I'm rarely in the mood for songs like this, and even if I were, I have to be honest and say I don't think Gerard's voice suits it.
Unfortunately, Destroya doesn't do much for me either. IDK, maybe if you come from a solely pop-punk background, this song will work better for you? But it's seriously a song that is on every rock album out there. And unfortunately enough, it's been done better. Destroya did remind me of a specific song, but I can't quite name it! It's driving me crazy! I thought it might be Audioslave - Cochise, but I'm not quite sure? At any rate, Cochise is a song I think would have fit well on the album, haha.
I actually really like the intro to The Kids From Yesterday, but then Gerard's singing kicks in, and I go "meh". The 'ooooh's in the background do nothing for me, I think they're kind of unnecessary. I do like the line "You only hear the music when your heart begins to break.".
Once again, I don't see the point of Goodnite Dr Death. It feels like something you'd record as an example of what you want, which you then give to someone to do well. I hate the voice of whoever's meant to be Dr D.
OMG guys, I am in complete head over heels love with Vampire Money. I love this song so much I can get over the fucking ridiculous voice Gerard puts on at the start. It is loud and raucous and energetic and fucking fun. There are handclaps! And too many cymbals (which I hate but is generally the sign of a rock song, *snerk*)! And it feels like an actual punk song! I could totally see this being in the Killjoys' verse, which isn't something I can say about many of the other songs. I love this song a whole lot, and I really wish the entire album had just been this on repeat.
So! In conclusion: Planetary (GO!) and Vampire Money are by far the best tracks on this album. I kind of want to hurt GeeWay for even thinking up S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W, it is just that bad. Most of the rest of the songs have really bad lyrics, the drumwork is so boring (OMG BOB! T^T), and I am just not overwhelmed with joy )= It's a shame, because as a whole, the album is ok - but it is only ok, which is somehow kind of worse? I really wantd to love this album, but alas, I think I have to relegate most of it to background music.
Still - when they do it right, as with P GO! and V M, they really do it right, I just wish the album had ALL been that good.
Also, did anyone else think that someone had smashed Franz Ferdinand with The Arctic Monkeys to get the sound for this?
Oh, I guess now is also the time to say - I am so not excited by the Killjoys' verse. I think it would have been amazing as a film or comic, but as an album, I just don't think it works.
